General Preparation of Bugs


It is important to position your insect specimens the way you want them, before you let them dry. I like to have the legs and antennae spread out and visible for display. Other collectors may want them more compact to save space in their collection. In this video, Gary shows us how to position your insects the way you want them. He also talks about how to relax insects that are too dry to reposition.

Collecting and preserving Dragonflies can be both fun and challenging. When preserving Dragonflies and other Odonata it is important to lock in the colors. Odonata colors and a result of the fatty acids in the the cells. With proper preparation, you can preserve the life colors of your specimens.

This is a Convergent Lady Beetle. There are many species of lady Beetles found in the US. Some of them are the Asian Multicoloer lady Beetle, The seven-spotted Lady Beetle, and the Twice-stabbed lady Beetle.






lady Beetles overwinter as adults in large groups. They over winter in tree trunks, under rocks and sometimes in the walls of houses.
